“I want to be you”.
The lovely, successful publisher lady (let’s call her Jeanna) sat opposite me in my Zoom room and uttered those words.
I replied, “No, you don’t, Jeanna. You want to be like me AS YOU.
You want to be YOU as what you see in me”.
“Yes, that’s it!” Jeanna exclaimed, “I want to be my version of you!”.
It was an odd conversation as we’d just met, but Jeanna had been on my list and tribe for some time and had obviously spotted something in me and my work that she wanted!
“Then I can help you,” I said. I can help you find exactly the version of you that you’re picking up in my reflection”.
What the heck am I talking about?
That mysterious and juicy topic of client attraction.
Client attraction is like any other sort of human interplay, including dating.
Attraction is “chemistry” that motivates us to wish to be with someone else (before we decide to be that person!)
It’s been well-researched and documented that attractiveness highly influences our perception of people. Whether that’s fair or not is beside the point. Being attractive is a big freaking deal when it comes to business (as well as romance!) When we meet, various bits of our brains go into overdrive sorting out our potential relationship to someone new. Along with our neurochemistry tuning into the other person’s subtle aroma and outward appearance, those dynamics are naturally at work, even before we’ve heard what they’re saying.
And here’s where it gets delightfully mysterious and achingly frustrating to service providers in the two-headed-lama dynamic of trying to draw in clients. The right clients.
Like, ‘The ONE’ we want to fall in love with and who falls in love with us (figuratively speaking!)
So, let’s look at why that is.
According to classic marketing psychology, colour psychology plays a significant role in marketing and branding strategies. As does key phrasing and messaging. Add to that social proof, authority and the scarcity factor – all cited as essential aspects of our ideal client relationship.
But it’s all soooo tricky to interpret for the average wellness and lifestyle entrepreneur- even seasoned ones! Up to now.
Welcome to the world of Energetic Branding or Branding By Divine™, as I call it.
In the last five years, we’ve seen the rise and rise of formidable entrepreneurs who bring the dynamics of energy into their marketing and business. No longer just the law of attraction marketing but the Law Of Client Attraction.
In my Styled to Sell™ Masterclass (free here!) I talk in detail about what happens when you meet someone and why you are either drawn to or repelled by them.
Brand image is not rocket science when you understand how the energetic dynamic between potential clients and the coach or service provider plays out. Like the chemistry when meeting on a date, there is something that makes you feel safe or not, incites you to want to deepen the relationship or not!
When it’s an ideal match (some entrepreneurs call these ‘soul-mate’ clients), bonding goes beyond the professional relationship, with genuine mutual admiration and even affection.
Shared core values are a huge part of this.
Let’s just look at what happens when you fall in love.
- Physical attraction.
In potential client-coach relationships, it might not be as heart-stoppingly dramatic and definitely not hormonal. Still, virtual or online, there will be a ‘This Is The One’ moment!
It might be because you hear them on a podcast, read a blog or fall in love with their copy on the website, that palpitating moment of wanting to connect with them WILL come!
You’ll probably love their brand image, adore their social media photos, believe that every word on the sales page was written for you and will find them online to follow and connect.
Obviously, it’s not the same relationship as romance, but what’s happening in your body and energy is similar, and your mind will scream, ‘I want to work with this person!’
2. Getting to know them – are you a good match?
In a romantic relationship, finding shared passions, views, beliefs, and a compatible personality will determine if the relationship continues.
In our client-teacher case, it’s the same. The more you share and convey core values with a prospect, the higher the chance they will want to work with you.
What is happening throughout all of this is an energetic exchange between you. Being on the same heart-induced electromagnetic frequency
This is what happened when I met Jeanna on Zoom and she wanted to be her version of me. She wanted to experience my energy, and when I explained that that was entirely possible, she signed up to work within my executive coaching space immediately.
Here’s the key: we weren’t on a ‘sales call’, or even a discovery or anything else call.
I don’t have sales calls. I have conversations with people whose values I share and if there is evidently an affinity between us (an energetic exchange) and they want to know what makes me, ME, I share my work. I never go into a call intending to pitch, let alone convert. I never have any other motif than meeting a person where they are and leaving them better when we part.
My latest ‘The ONE’ client actually wrote to me to ask if I was taking clients.
She had been in my network for some time. She remembered something about me that suddenly became important to her. After one beautiful, heartfelt conversation, we felt energetically ‘engaged’ as it were, to work together on her re-branding.
It gets better. When working at this level with clients, there is indeed affection and mutual admiration. There is also fun, humour, ease, trust and a deep, conscious respect for the other.
In shared values, my client and I have a love of all things consciousness and cosmic codes, an equal sharp intellect, a similar approach to lifestyle, and for heart-centred or mission-led fempreneurs, a bond of sisterhood in our bold visions to make a difference. There is a high heart-brain coherence going on here. We know that people buy on feelings more than anything, especially women. Our intuition serves us well (or should!) regarding how and with whom we do business. We just have to listen!
With my VIP clients, the bond is so close, I innately understand their work and who they are. In fact, that is part of my job! I channel for them – ideas, strategies, names, copy, logos, lifestyle support, colours, themes, and all things that bring their mind, body and soul into alignment, and at a very high money-attracting frequency. It is a beautiful thing.
That’s the whole point.
When you are in true alignment, expressed in image, messaging and communication, your Why, What, and How become a glorious business model that matches your Who. When you really know who you are and can express that at a much higher frequency than the usual ‘elevator pitch’ formula, by the law of of client attraction, you will be the obvious choice for ‘THE ONES’ you are destined to work with.
In classical marketing terms (and in this complex marketplace), they say it takes 7 to 8 ‘impressions’ from when a customer discovers you to the kind of relationship above. The stages are:
Awareness – seeing you online, on social media or through referral or recommendation.
Consideration – checking out your website, blog, podcast, and your authority, leading to connection.
Decision – connection through meeting and talking or thorough research and reflection.
Retention – working through their work from lead magnet to first price product to higher ticket purchase.
Advocacy – over-delivering and getting your clients the results they want so much they want to promote you.
So, how do I personally translate that through branding?
As I often say, I don’t ‘DO branding’. I create Personal Brands to give my clients an energetic, visual identity that corresponds with their very soul DNA.
My work goes beyond psychology even what is called soul branding. It’s helping my clients embody and become THE ONE that their ideal clients are searching for. It’s reverse engineering the whole marketing process and is genuinely magnetic to abundance.
I am energetically calling in my clients just by being me and making myself visible as the only obvious choice. (That comes from the copy and messaging as well as the visual aspect.)
I help my clients do the same.
I go very quickly from Awareness to Advocacy in the relationship as do my clients, because I give them the same exact blueprint to work from, as themselves.
In energetic terms this is a micro-macro replica of how the universe works – so within, so without. As above, so below. It’s energy dressed in a message composed of all the elements that make up a Personal Brand. We are playing in quantum reality, ancient cosmic laws and proven marketing science.
So, as in my ‘Styled To Sell™’ audio class and my Visionary Women Archetypes playsheet (both free for you on my website here), the gold of this alchemy lies in the CREATION of your personal brand.
That’s why I include style, image and messaging high on the list of Personal Brand creations.
But that comes after articulating precisely who you are in your essence, mission, and vision. Most entrepreneurs struggle to express this at such a far-reaching level, and it’s the subject of another article to come!
But this portal is magical! It truly is a direct line to your client’s hearts. Full of love and possibility.
In the simplest terms, the client / service-provider relationship shares many dynamics of any other relationship, especially for female, heart-led entrepreneurs.
Often, we share the same stories in our lives, too!
So it’s good to get out of your head when considering how your Personal Brand is perceived and back into the realms of heart, energy and alignment.
It’s the most heavenly experience to co-create at this level.
Which is why I call my work Branding By Divine™.
It’s not ‘I’m the expert so I’ll show you how your brand should look’. Not at all.
We have many ‘dates’ so I can get to know them, including taking them through my beautiful methodology The Trinity Code. See more here .
One thing is for sure. Heart-led entrepreneurs don’t like being pushy and many of them don’t like being visible. Even the idea of marketing can make some squirm.
But when you’re playing business in the realms of energy and alignment and the laws of nature
doing business together is an absolute joy.
